it's in the little things
Small acts of kindness show you really care.
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 14-16
Look for opportunities to serve your new friends
One way to let our light shine in this dark world is to simply be kind. We ought to be masters of random acts of kindness because we have God living inside of us. People are always surprised by kindness—they think “Why would you do something so nice?” Our answer to that is: God has shown me grace (undeserved kindness) and I want to show you the same. Just keep your eyes open, and you'll find many ways to be kind to others.
A Few Ideas:
- Offer to baby-sit.
- Help them move, clean or do yard work.
- Help with a mechanical, auto or handyman fix-it job.
- Offer to bring a meal, home-grown vegetables, or dessert.
- Pick up mail and/or care for pets when they are out of town.
- Give a gift card for a much needed night out to the movies or dinner.
