HOW ONE PERSON'S STEP OF FAITH CHANGED A LIFE

PETER WELLE'S STORY

My story is not a sweet one. It doesn't involve sincerity, an open heart, or even really an interest in Christ. No, I came to The Rock in order to avoid an argument with my girlfriend.

I had been dating a girl who had recently gotten saved for a few months. While I wasn't opposed to her faith, I certainly didn't share her interest in Christ. But she soon started asking if I would go to church with her. I brushed off her requests, but it was soon clear if I didn't go, her feelings would be hurt. I figured it would be simpler to sit through church than have an argument.

After my first visit, I told her I thought the music was sappy, the singers cheesy and the message under-whelming. Looking back, my reaction had a lot less to do with the service than it did with my arrogance. My reaction must have been so dissappointing.

Fortunately for me, my girlfriend didn't give up. She continued to invite me to The Rock, and I began to regularly oblige her. Soon, I started to meet some cool people who shared my interest in music and video, people who had relationships beyond what I had with my college buddies.

Before I knew it, I was hooked into The Rock because of the authenticity of the people there, and by that fall I accepted Christ and was baptized. Seven years later, I thank God I wasn't given up on.
