HOW ONE PERSON'S STEP OF FAITH CHANGED A LIFE

PAM GORDON 'S STORY

When I was in college I met a woman who attended Evergreen. She and her roommates all reached out to me, giving me rides home after class, inviting me over for dinner, and including me whenever they were doing something fun. For two to three years she invited me to church every so often, and I would tell her I’d come only to come up with an excuse at the last minute. She never got mad at me, just said “maybe next time” and kept being my friend.

In March of 1994, I decided I needed to follow through when I told her I would come. I attended Evergreen on a Friday night, and never looked back. I remember telling her “You have nice friends”, and she replied “They can be your friends too!” Her kindness and willingness to share what she had really touched me.

That spring, I went to the Singles Conference. I was nervous because I didn’t know many people but my friend promised to stick by me. We spent a lot of time together that weekend. At one point, she was playing volleyball and I was sitting on the sidelines watching. Another single sat next to me who had just become a Christian and was very excited about it. His opening statement to me was “Hi! How long have you been a Christian?” I looked fearfully to where my friend was playing volleyball and replied “I’m working on it”. I had no idea how true that would be. Later that night I made a decision that changed my life forever, I accepted Christ as my Savior.

Throughout the years I have met MANY wonderful people at Evergreen. From the greeting time at the beginning of the service, working in the nursery, being in small groups, or roommates found at church, my friends seemingly simple offer came true – they are my friends!
